Kaffa

Inspired by the origins of coffee, this packaging design pays tribute to Kaffa, a region in southwestern Ethiopia known as the birthplace of coffee and home to the people who first discovered the beans. Kaffa is not only a geographic location but a word deeply tied to the cultural and historical roots of coffee itself.

The design captures the landscape of Ethiopian coffee farming, where families cultivate beans on small plots of land. This is visually represented through organic illustrations of hills and coffee trees that wrap around the packaging, creating a sense of storytelling. The choice to use only black ink emphasizes the purity of the product, allowing the natural texture of the brown paper packaging to shine through. This paper choice intentionally mimics traditional coffee bean sacks, tying the design back to the way beans are transported and handled at their source.
